Get to know Arthur
I started my financial services career with Imperial Life of Canada in 1970 and then held senior positions with Crown Life, Prime Health (now Vitality), and Municipal Mutual.
From 1990 to 2017, I ran my own award-winning independent financial advice firm which subsequently became part of Flying Colours. I’m still actively involved in my work as a financial adviser which I now view more as a vocation than a career. I concentrate on advising older clients with capital to invest, and I’m qualified to advise on care fees funding.
I’m both a Chartered and Certified financial planner and hold Fellowships with the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Personal Finance Society and, until a few years ago, the Pensions Management Institute. I’m also a Chartered Fellow (Financial Planning) of the Institute for Securities & Investment.
Outside of work
I ‘ve been a member of Millmead Baptist Church, a large Christian community based in Guildford, since 1995. For 14 years, I led the work which catered for the needs of the active retired members. I’m currently the finance deacon of the church, responsible for their annual budget in excess of £1.3m.
I am a director of Orta Asia Baspasy Ltd (which roughly translates as Central Asia Publishers) which holds the copyright to the Kazakh Bible and various other Christian publications in Kazakh. I also serve as a Trustee of New Routes UK which supports ambitious and dedicated orphaned young Kenyan adults to obtain university degrees.
Having run my own family business for 28 years and taken very few holidays, my wife and I are now making up for it with a lot of overseas travel.
We both like walking a lot in the Surrey countryside and spending time with our four granddaughters.
